Autonomy and Development - Organizational Construction and Changes of the Hanxi Mazu Temple

摘要

華人媽祖廟組織，屬於華人民間宗教的「宗教組織」研究範疇。在過去的研究強調神明會、祭祀圈等概念，忽略了廟宇本身在國府宗教政策的影響下，已經成為一個「自主性」頗強的宗教組織。本文以臺中樂成宮（旱溪媽祖廟）為個案，嘗試解答三個問題：第一，樂成宮的自主性組織及內涵？其次，樂成宮組織的歷史變遷與影響變遷的結構性因素？第三，樂成宮的組織如何運作？這三個問題，構成本研究的主軸。本研究將以樂成宮組織歷史發展及2013年繞境為焦點，嘗試尋求解答。

The Chinese Mazu Temple organization belongs to the ＂religious organization＂ research category of Chinese folk religion. In the past literature, the researchers emphasized the concept of the deity worship associations(神明會), the religious sphere (祭祀圈), and neglected that the temple itself has become an ＂autonomous＂ and strong religious organization under the influence of the national religious policy. This article takes Taichung Lecheng Temple (Hanxi Mazu Temple) as a case study to try to answer three questions: First, how autonomous is Lecheng Temple regarding its organization and connotation? Second, how did Lecheng Temple change through time and what are the structural factors to influence its historical changes? Third, how does Lecheng Temple organization operate? These three research questions constitute the main axis of this study. This study will try to find answers based on the historical development of Lecheng Temple and the event of Hanxi Mazu pilgrimage (媽祖繞境) in 2013.
