Factors Dominating Operation Time of Mesiodens Removal
影響正中贅生牙移除手術時間的主要因素
摘要
Background: Although mesiodens removal is a common oral surgery, this surgery can be challenging, especially in children, in cases that are difficult or that involve prolonged surgeries. A number of factors are thought to affect mesiodens removal surgeries. Predictions of the mesiodens removal operation time (MROT) that are determined only by surgeon experience are problematic. Aim: This study aimed to identify the factors that affect the MROT and formulate a MROT estimation equation with the MROT-related factors. Design: Data were collected for 38 patients who had 51 mesiodens removed under general anesthesia by the same senior surgeon. Each patient was examined with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) before the surgery. The generalized estimating equations were used to analyze the relationship between the risk factors that prolong mesiodens surgeries and the MR.OT. Results: Two factors, the shortest distance between the mesiodens and the alveolar bone surface (SDMAS) and the shortest distance between the mesiodens and the nasal cavity (SDMNC), were measured on CBCT images and found to most affect the MROT. The following formula was created to estimate the MROT: MROT (s) = 413.75 - 159.13 x X_(19, 29) + 325.26 x SDMAS - 30.66 x SDMNC. Conclusions: CBCT is a robust way to locate the mesiodens. Determining the SDMAS and SDMNC, which are the factors that most influence the MROT, on CBCT images allows for scientific estimations of the MROT.
