For patients who underwent wide excision, depending on the extent of the reconstruction area, they often need to receive reconstruction procedures. There are many reconstruction modalities. How to make the best choice for the patient has become an important task for the surgeons. Since the oral cavity plays part in delicate movements such as chewing and pronunciation, when the oral cavity is involved, especially the lip area, the complexity and challenge of reconstruction would be even higher. According to the extent and location of the defect, the surgeon can choose regional flaps or free flaps to meet the patient's functional and esthetic concern. In this article we discuss the application of regional flaps and free flaps for lip reconstruction based on case reports and literature review.
