This is a case study about using Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang (pinellia combination) and Jia Wei Xiao Yao San (bupleurum & peony formula) to treat a middle-aged woman with recurrent stomach ache. Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang (pinellia combination) from the ancient TCM book ”Shang Han Lun” has the therapeutic effects for harmoniaing the stomach and lowering the adverse flow of qi, resolving mass and removing stagnation. It is suitable for the patients with cold-heat retention in middle-jiao and spleen-stomach deficiency due to damp-he at. The most prominent clinical symptoms includes epigastric oppress ion, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, gurgling sound in tummy, diarrhea, and sticky light-yellow tongue fur.
