In recent years, intraoral and perioral piercings have grown in popularity among teenagers and young adults. This is of concern to dental and medical professionals because of the risks and complications for oral, dental and general health. Fear of losing teeth is common among patients presenting with gingival recession. Treatment of gingival recession involves removal of the causative agent, scaling and root planing, and root coverage, which yield an increase in the width of the keratinized gingiva, improvement in hygiene status, and absence of dental hypersensitivity.
