摘要


生物醫學光電(Biophotonics)為一新興且快速成長的研究領域,它的目標在於利用光電科技偵測與操控生物反應和材料。在生物的應用上包含探測分子層次的作用機制、功能和結構。在醫學的應用上,巨觀方面有組織的研究,微觀方面則包括以非侵入性的方式對人體偵測、診斷和治療疾病。這是一門整合了生物醫學,生物技術,光學,電子,電機,資訊,精密機械,物理與化學的新領域。它是因應解決生物技術與醫學上的問題所發展出來的。生醫光電的發展不僅是一個新的嘗試,亦將成為工程科學與生命科學間之最佳介面與橋樑之一,其特點在於發展與應用先進之光電科技於尖端生物醫學的研究,從而開創一嶄新之領域。

Biophotonics is a new and fast developing interdisciplinary subject. It focuses on applying novel photonics technologies in detecting and manipulating biological interactions and materials. At the frontier of biological studies, powerful biophotonics tools are used to investigate mechanisms, functions, and structures at molecular level. In the applications of medical care, they are used to study tissues at macro scale and can be used non-invasively to detect, diagnose, and treat diseases. Biophotonics is of interdisciplinary nature that includes biomedicine, biotechnology, optics, electronics, electrical engineering, informatics, precision machinery, physic and chemistry. Its development originated from the quest for better tools in probing the frontiers of biomedical research. It is bridging the cutting edges of engineering and life sciences for the coming decades.
