In this thesis, LED-based vehicle headlamp optical designs have been reviewed, including the development of projection type, multi-surface reflection type, parabolic reflection type, RXI and fiber-based light distribution type. The review covers journal paper and patent literatures. In addition, a software simulation for free-form surface LED-based vehicle headlamp optical design has also been presented. The design used of two 5W/311 lm OSRAM LED, the simulated optical efficiency can reached 74%.
