"Thousand Character Classic" is a long Chinese poem frequently used as a primer for teaching Chinese characters to children from the sixth century onward. It contains exactly one thousand Chinese characters, each used only once, arranged into 250 clauses of four characters apiece to make it easy to memory. The first clause recorded in the "Thousand Character Classic" is the "Tian Di Xuan Huang". For expressing colors in terms of Chinese characters, "Xuan" means the color of the Sky and "Huang" means the color of the Ground. Therefore, "Tian Di Xuan Huang" can be explained as "the Sky is dark and the Ground is yellow". Based on the doctrine of "Yin and Yang" of "I Ching", we can explore ancient Chinese concept of the original universe by means of "Tian Di Xuan Huang".
