This title of this paper ”Why Are We Here?” is not a metaphysical musing regarding the purpose of life. Rather, it is the practical questioning of the purpose behind our sitting here and listening to lectures in this conference room. Modern technologies and information resources make it possible to share ideas with others using a variety of formats and settings; however, we seldom take advantage of these innovative methods. Since our educational curriculums are changing to take advantage of new technologies and information resources, it seems logical to similarly advance our administrative activities. This paper mentions some innovative conference alternatives and proposes a conference format using 3D virtual reality software and information sharing techniques.
