Age and growth of the white-tongued crevalle,Uraspis helvolus, caught bycommercial bottom trawlers in Suao coastal waters of northeastern Taiwanfrom December 1983 to March 1985 were studied from the annulus counts onthe scales of 220 individuals. The growth resting zones in the scales wereformed twice a year,in February and July, respectively. The back-calculatedfork length has no significant difference between female and male fish.Theparameters of von Bertalanffy growth equation estimated by the Ford-Walfordmethod were as follows:asymptotic length(L(subscript ∞))=63.3 cm in fork length,growcoefficient(K)=0.087,age at zero length(t(subscript 0))=-1.213yr.
