From an ordinary point of view, suicide is something very difficult to comprehend, since it defies a fundamental principle that all human beings have a strong will to live. Instead, persons with a suicidal intention would rather kill themselves than surviving for a longer lifetime. What makes a person think that he or she has no choices but to commit a suicide? The main purpose of this study is to have a better understanding about the etiology of suicide. This paper also deals with the theories, rationales, risk factors, and treatments. In order to provide a better care to the people with suicide attempts, a comprehensive strategy incorporating primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of suicide. Policy recommendations to health professionals and officials are included as well.
