摘要

Space analysis and Bolton's analysis are two important parts of the orthodontic diagnostic and treatment planning procedures for malocclusions. Measuring data from plaster models with boley gauge or vernier caliper is a traditional method. Due to recent technologic advance, the models are allowed to be digitized and measured with software tools. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences between measurements done by software tools (Winceph) on digital models and those done directly on plaster models. Twenty-five models were randomly selected from pretreatment patient models without any missing teeth. The digital models were scanned by scanner (4800 Scanner-ICE) and stored in the computer. Space analysis and Bolton's analysis were each repeated four times on both the plaster models and digital models respectively and the operating time were recorded too. The data were analyzed by t-test. The results showed that there were no significant differences between these 2 groups in the space analysis and ant ”6” ratio in the Bolton's analysis. The differences between these 2 groups in ant ”12” ratio in the Bolton's analysis and operating time were significant. So digital models might be acceptable for clinical use in the space analysis and it could reduce the operating time.
