This paper explores how filial piety serves as the basis on which Confucianism and Buddhism syncretize in popular society. In Confucianism filial piety is practiced to maintain human ethics and social order, and hence various means and goals ensue from social rank. In Buddhism it appeals to not only karma, but human ethics which traces back to Confucianism. Filial piety bridges Confucianism and Buddhism.
