The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence rate of dysmenorrhea among the nursing staff at a medical center located in southern Taiwan and the self-treatments utilized to lessen the discomfort associated with dysmenorrhea. Our results revealed that the prevalence rate of dysmenorrhea was 76.4%, which correlated among the nursing staffs’ in different age groups and different duration of working years. Lower abdominal pain was the most frequent complaint 92.6%, and 46.9% of them without consulting a doctor took NSAID drugs to relieve their dysmenorrhea. The most frequently utilized self-treatments were drinking a warm beverage and wearing loose clothing.
