Comparison of Various Percutaneous Tracheostomy Methods

Percutaneous tracheostomy is a relatively new method compared to surgical tracheostomy. Nevertheless, percutaneous tracheostomy has gradually been accepted over the 30 years since its initial development in 1985. This article introduces the historical origin of surgical tracheostomy and compares the four most widely used percutaneous methods . Key points of the new published tracheostomy guidelines are also reminded.
