In different development stages of the hermeneutics, the central issue is always understanding and explanation of the text. A kind of interest comes out in the traditional Scriptural hermeneutics, namely to uncover the original meaning of classics and the intention of the writers. Modern methodological hermeneutics, which developed from Scriptural hermeneutics, carries this interest on as before. The ontological hermeneutics bases the text-understanding on the self-understanding. However, this kind of self-understanding merely emphasizes that each understanding is different and has its legitimacy, while it doesn't give full attention to the value orientation of understanding. Fundamentally speaking, the interpretation of classics is to set virtue. Self-understanding should be promoted to self-shaping, in order to achieve the purpose of ethical education.
