The purpose of this study was to explore parental mediation of children’s Internet use and to examine the related factors. Parents were randomly selected from 13 primary schools in New Taipei City. A total of 1377 parents completed the self-administered questionnaire. The results were as follows.
1.Parents reported that they often implemented vision care mediation, while they sometimes implemented active and monitoring mediation. Regarding restrictive mediation, most parents did not allow their children to purchase Apps (84%), provide personal information to others online (56%), and share location messages (43%).
2.Parents who were female, had good parent-child relationship, spent more time using tablets, had higher smartphone/tablet skills, and higher mediation efficacy were more likely to implement active mediation.
3.Parents who were female, had higher smartphone/tablet skills, and higher mediation efficacy were more likely to implement monitoring mediation.
4.Parents who had higher education level, were married or living together, spent less time using smartphones, had lower smartphone/tablet skills, higher risk perception, and higher mediation efficacy were more likely to implement restrictive mediation.
5.Parents who were female, had good parent-child relationship, had higher smartphone/tablet skills, higher risk perception, and higher mediation efficacy were more likely to implement vision care mediation.
