This research investigates a refined redesign of the solar and Li-ion battery hybrid power system. The system contains two control loops. The inner-loop is a voltage regulator based on Zeta type buck-boost converter. The outer-loop is for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of the solar power system. A type III compensator to provide unconditionally stable loop is employed for the inner-loop. The MPPT loop is accomplished through the control of a light dependent resistor (LDR) installed in between the solar panel and the Zeta converter using a fuzzy-logic based MPPT controller. Computer simulations based on MATLAB/SIMULINK are successfully conducted to verify the design.
