In this research, the effect of the water quality by using a drum-type solid particle filter in a domestic developed indoor recirculating-water culture system is studied. The experimental results show that the drum-type solid particle filter does not only obtain a function of removing Suspended Solids (SS) from the recirculating-water, but also has a positive effect to the nitrification of the biofilter in the culture system. The average removing rate of the Suspended Solids and the average removing efficiency of the drum-type solid particle filter are 7.33 g/hr and 12.05%, respectively. By comparing the performance of nitrification of the biofilter, the avenge difference of Nitrite (NO2-N) concentration measured between the inlet and outlet is 0.421 mg/l as the drum-type solid particle filter running, which is higher than the value of 0.092 mg/l without the operating of the drum-type solid particle filter. This study gets the result of that the operating of a drum-type solid particle filter has a substantial contribution to the improvement of the water quality in a recirculating-water culture system.
