Periodontal Status of College Freshman in Taipei City Assessed by the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN)

摘要

本研究之目的係以世界衛生組織（WHO）所推荐的治療需要社區通用牙周指數（CPITN）來評估臺北市二所學院的537位新生（平均年齡年19.8歲），467位男性和70位女性的牙周狀態和牙周治療需要。結果顯示537位受檢學生中，至少一顆牙齒罹患不同程度牙周病者約佔89.2％。牙周病包含有牙齦炎和牙周炎，其罹患率分別為88.3％和22.2％。若就其檢查症狀可以區分成四類：2.8％具有較深牙周囊袋，19.4％較淺牙周囊袋，65.6％帶有牙結石和5.4％牙周探測時牙齦出血，合計患有不同程度牙周病的學生佔93.1％。若將全口分成六區，平均每人牙周健康的區數為2.0，牙齦流血0.6區，帶有牙結石3.0區和淺牙周囊袋0.3區。至於牙周治療需要方面，最主要為93％的學生需要口腔衛生教育。至於我們「可接受牙周健康」者（全口六區至少要有三區CPITN牙周指數為0）所佔比率為33.8％。此一數值遠比歐洲公元2000年的「90％可接受牙周健康」目標相去甚遠，實在是我國大學生重要的牙周健康促進課題。

The aim of this study was to assess the periodontal status and periodontal treatment needs of 537 freshman (mean age: 19.8; 467 males and 70 females) of two colleges in Taipei city using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN) developed by the WHO. The results showed that about 89.2% of the 537 dentated students suffered from various degrees of periodontal disease in at least one tooth. The prevalence of gingivitis and periodontitis were 88.3% and 22.2%, respectively. 93.1% of these subjects suffered from various severity of periodontal problems, 2.8% with deep pocket, 19.4% with shallow pocket, 65.6% with calculus and 5.4% with gingival bleeding. The mean number of sextants by score per person were found that 2.0 of the sextants exhibited healthy periodontium, 0.6 gingival bleeding, 3.0 calculus and 0.3 shallow pocket. With regard to periodontal treatment needs, 93% of the students needed oral hygiene education, the majority in all treatment needs. The occurrence of ”acceptable” gingival health (at least three out of six sextants scoring Code 0) was 33.8%. The value is far below the suggested European goal for periodontal health in the year 2000 (90% with acceptable gingival health), so it is our most serious immediate periodontal health problem in our college students.
