The Effect of Twelve-week Lower Extremities Strengthening Program for Normal Foot and Flat Foot Elders' Falling Risk-Preliminary Investigation

Purpose: The investigation is to research the effect of 12-week lower extremities strengthening program for normal foot and functional flat foot elder's falling risk. Method: 22 female and male subjects whose age are above 65 years old. They are assigned into normal foot group (NFG) or flat foot group (FFG). Before and after strengthening, we analyze their falling risky factors by independent t-test. Result: In NFG, 30-s chair stand, five-meter walking velocity and right foot base area are statistically significant. (p<.05) In FFG, single-foot standing test with eyes-opened and right foot base area are statistically significant. Conclusion: 12-week lower extremities strengthening program is more effective for normal foot elders' walking stability and static balance and flat foot elders' static balance. It also increases their standing area and decreases falling risk.
