Athletes' Perceived Leadership Behaviors and Leader Effectiveness of Coaches at Universities in Taiwan

摘要

The purpose of this study was to explore the possible relationship between athletes' perceived leadership behaviors and leader effectiveness of coaches at universities in Taiwan, and the differences among demographic groups. The sample population of this study had 1382 participants who played National Intercollegiate Athletic Games (NIAG) in 2007. The sampling method of convenience random was used on 300 players, with 281 valid inventories returned. Data were collected through the use of a revised Leadership Scale of Sports (LSS), Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ) and Team Goal Achievement Questionnaire (TGAQ). Data analyses used descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients, and one-way ANOVA. Primary findings showed the following:
(a) there were significant differences of coaches’ leadership behaviors and leader effectiveness on the factors of training time, training week and coaches' years (p＜.05).
(b) there were significant positive correlation between awareness of coach leadership behaviors and leader effectiveness (p＜.05).
