The purpose of this paper is to clarify the feature of the grammaticalization of Japanese verbs sitagau and tomonau. The result of the research is as follows. First of all, principle Generalization. Decategorialization, Layering and Persistence works in the process of the grammaticalization of the two words. Moreover, the usage of ancient Japanese remains in the grammaticalized form of the two words. In addition, when sitagau changes into nisutagatte, the meaning of the space change becomes a meaning of the change between the continuance situations. On the other hand, the meaning of sharing the space changes into the meaning of sharing time when tomonau changes into nitomonatte.
