民國92年4月台灣遭受到嚴重急性呼吸道症候群(severe acute respirator syndrome, SARS)的衝擊,醫護體系首當其衝。臨床護理人員遭受感染的機率高,且因為是一新興的高度傳染性疾病,造成護理人員在照護過程壓力倍增。本研究的目的,即採質性研究法以某醫學中心照護SARS病患之外科病房護理人員為研究對象,探討在照護SARS病患時所感受的壓力及調適的行為。研究結果發現護理人員在照護SARS病患時,壓力來自社會的異樣眼光、家人的擔心、害怕未知疾病的威脅、擔心變成疾病傳播者及個人與專業的衝突等;其調適行為有增加身體抵抗力、正向認同、調整日常活動、尋求訊息、獲得家人親戚的支持以及採取不理會與隱瞞的態度。經此研究了解到當面臨不熟悉的及未知的疾病照護時護理人員的工作壓力及調適方法,可作為促進護理實務的參考。
