The purpose of this study was to investigate fitness and related factors among the elderly. The research utilized a cross-sectional design, and 90 participants from local senior care units completed structured questionnaires and senior functional fitness tests. The results of the study demonstrated that participants performed 4.2 tests at or above the norm. Performances were best on the arm-curl test and the chair sit-and-reach test. Functional fitness was revealed to be significantly associated with gender, body mass index, waist-hip ratio, number of illnesses, depression score, knowledge of exercise, and intensity of exercise. When performing in multivariate analysis, the best model to predict senior fitness included waist-hip ratio, knowledge of exercise, and intention of exercise, explaining 25.3% of the variance in subjects' fitness status. It is recommended that health care providers design effective exercise programs based on senior fitness tests results to help older adults maintain or improve fitness.
