This study aims to explore how convergent thinking and creative tactic instruction affect creative performance. There were two independent variables in this study: group (creative tactic instruction group and control group) and convergent thinking ability (high and low convergent thinking ability). Creative thinking performance was considered as the dependent variable. First, participants' convergent thinking ability was evaluated by applying the Critical Thinking Scale. Then, the participants were randomly assigned to the creative tactic instruction and the control groups, and asked to perform creative imagination tasks. The results showed that creative tactic instructions effectively increased creative thinking performance in terms of beyond reality and originality. Additionally, we also found that with creative tactic instructions, convergent thinking had significant influence on creative thinking performance.
