The purpose of this study was to extend previous studies to investigate whether the perceptions of competence, autonomy and relatedness have significant mediating effects on self-determined motivation in sport setting. Participants were 180 intercollegiate athletes (131 males and 49 females) of team sports in Division II league. Their average age was 20.07±1.82 years. Subjects were asked to complete inventories assess perception of motivational climate, perceptions of competence, autonomy and relatedness, and motivation of sport on noncompetition period. The results of path analysis indicated that only perceptions of autonomy and relatedness played as important mediators in terms of perception of task-oriented climate predicting self-determined motivation.
