本研究旨在探討衝浪愛好者的休閒行為實踐情形，以及台灣衝浪次文化的發展面貌。本研究以宜蘭縣頭城鎮海域的冬季衝浪者為研究對象，透過文獻分析、參與觀察、深度訪談法，從衝浪愛好者的休閒觀著手，探討衝浪愛好者的休閒實踐是如何展現，以及衝浪者的休閒實踐究竟隱喻了什麼社會意義，並探討衝浪次文化的內涵。調查結果發現：
一、在休閒實踐方面：衝浪愛好者傾向冒險、追求刺激與挑戰，隱喻了衝浪者顛覆了傳統的安全穩定的休閒觀；衝浪者的休閒型態可以用認真休閒（Serious Leisure）來說明，透過認真休閒滿足現代人異化的生活；衝浪者透過衝浪追尋自我的表達，隱喻其追求個人化的意涵；衝浪者從城市出走回歸自然的休閒實踐，也隱喻衝浪世界是一個遺世而獨立的衝浪星球。
二、在衝浪次文化的內涵方面包括有：「成為」一個衝浪者所需要的征服慾，追求技巧精進，在同質環境之下衝浪者本身充滿異質性；衝浪者因共同興趣形成凝聚的親密團體，並形成共同的語言，共享生活；衝浪者的共同價值認同在於表現出勇氣野性，用技術、規則區別新手與老手；以及「我衝浪，故我在」的衝浪次文化。
綜合資料分析的結果，研究者歸納出本研究的結論及建議：衝浪愛好者的休閒實踐「是臣服也是征服」；衝浪次文化之展現「可以用現代波西米亞文化人」的概念來予以象徵之。衝浪活動為現代文明科技社會的出口，但要享受這個廣大出口，還有待提升海域安全觀念，同時重視海洋環境保護的努力；後續研究可以探討不同型態的衝浪者，深入衝浪體驗的探究，以及從衝浪運動的組織政策面著手，以更全面性的瞭解衝浪運動的未來。

Abstract
The seacoast was controlled strictly in Taiwan and the coastline was regarded as dangerous in the past. Under the circumstance and condition the surfing is still regarded as dangerous, risky nowadays. But the surfing amateurs have still presented the enthusiastic surfing behavior, even a number of surfers are also engaged in the surfing activity in the cold winter; therefore the researcher considers that there is profound social significance and special subculture connotation behind such behavior of leisure practice waiting for exploring.
The objects of research are the surfers do surfing along the coast in Touchen Township, Yilan County. The researcher adopts literature analysis, participant observation, the depth interview as research tools in order to discuss how the leisure practice of the surfing amateurs is implemented, what the metaphor of the social significance and what the connotation of the surfing subculture from the viewpoint of surfers.
The result of the research reveals that: the leisure behavior of the surfing amateurs is presented in the leisure values pursuing the stimulations and challenges, Serious Leisure, tracking of the self-expression and the leisure practice from city to the nature. What the metaphors of leisure practice among the surfers is that: to subvert the values of the stability and safety in conventional society, to satisfy the alienation of the modern life through Serious Leisure, to pursue the personalization, and to leave the civilization.
The connotations of the surfing subculture includes that: the desire of conquest what an amateur needs, the improving of the surfing skill; the formation of the intimate group because of the same interest; the common values of the surfers lie in the display of the courage, the distinguishing between the novice and the expert through technology and regulations; as well as the surfing subculture “I surfing; therefore I am”.
After integrating the data collection and analysis result the researcher induces two conclusions that the wetaphor of: (1) the leisure practice inside the surfers is “to submit something as well as challenage”; (2) the presentation of the subculture in surfing can be symbolized in “modern Bohemia cultural workers”.
