This research discusses the effects of color temperature and color rendering of artiticial light on visual performance and fatigue. The first part of the experiment analyzed and compared different types of general reading light, lighting manner, light distribution, color temperature and color rendering index (CRI). Results show that subjects at the light source of color temperature around 6000K is at the best comfort (80%) for reading. However, for differentiating between pictures and words, they can be clearly identified at 6000K (75%) and 7300K (80%). The color temperature of 6000K was further studied at the same illuminance based on three types of light sources (fluorescent, LED and LED with increased membrane) and two CRI (70 and 90), summing up to six types of lighting for examining visual fatigue during reading. Under the subjective assessment of these six types of lighting, visual comfort and differentiation rates are higher in the four types of LED lights. In the objective test of eye blinking rate, an increase in visual fatigue was found when reading for a long time, but statistics showed no significant difference between lighting and visual fatigue.
