This review article outlines the indication, contraindication, clinical application, and survival rate of mini dental implants. For prosthodontic treatment, mini-implants shorten edentulous period and protect conventional implants before its osseointegration. In comparison to conventional implants, mini-implants are cheaper and more suitable for narrow ridges. Because bone graft and soft tissue flap are rarely necessary for mini- implants, shorter learning curve for the clinician and less postsurgical discomfort for patients are guaranteed. All of the above make patients more confident to dentists. Mini-implants have been accepted for transitional and long-term use. With adequate evaluation and optimal planning, mini-implant could be treatment of choice for complicated cases. Finally we present a case treated by mini-implants to increase support and retention of lower complete denture.
