「さえ～ば」と「～ば」の違いについて－どのように「最低条件」を表すのか－

「さえ〜ば」という条件表現について、先行研究では「十分条件」、「最低（限の）条件」「唯一の（成立）条件」など、異なる用語で説明されているだけでなく、同じ研究者であっても用語の揺れが見られる。本稿では、「さえ〜ば」の意味を再検討し、さらに「さえ」を含まない「〜ば」条件文との違いを考える。「さえ〜ば」は、前件が後件成立の「かけがえのない条件」であるかどうかの違いによって、二種類の状況が存在しており、どちらでも序列関係にある最下位の条件を意味するため、「最低条件」という用語で説明したほうが本質的である。「さえ〜ば」は序列関係をなす複数の条件あっての「最低条件」を指しているため、直接的に「最低条件」を明示する。それに対して、「さえ」を含まない「〜ば」条件文は、文脈的に発話の焦点が前件に置かれる場合にだけ、誘導推論が働き「最低条件」と解釈されるため、間接的に「最低条件」が暗示される。「〜ば」条件文が（焦点前件限定の）「誘導推論による最低条件」を意味するのに対して、「さえ〜ば」は（焦点位置不問の）「序列関係あっての最低条件」を意味している。従って、「さえ〜ば」の使用の手がかりは、「序列をなす複数の条件の存在」である。

Even the same researcher used the different terms in different studies. The aim of this paper is to find the specific character of Sae-Ba by comparing with the meaning of Ba conditional sentences. There are two kinds of Sae-Ba conditional sentences, and the difference is whether the antecedent is irreplaceable or not. Both of them mean the minimum one in the scale of conditions. Therefore, it is appropriate to use ＂the minimum condition＂ to express the meaning of Sae-Ba essentially. The Sae-Ba conditional sentence means the minimum one in the scale of conditions, so it expresses the minimum condition directly. The Ba conditional sentence implies the minimum condition indirectly because of invited inference only when discourse-focus is on the antecedent contextually. Therefore, the hint of using Sae-Ba is to see whether there is scale of conditions in the context.
