The Influential Effects of Self-Efficacy on Safety Awareness at Work for Part-time Employment Students of Science and Technology University

The study aims to investigate the effects of part-time employment university student’ self-efficacy on their safety awareness at work. For research and programming purposes, this group is often divided into two subgroups: adolescents (15-19 years) and young adults (20-24 years). In this study, 1,200 questionnaires were sent to 10 universities of science and technology, a total of 1,127 valid samples were collected. The valid response rate was 93.92%. The results were analyzed with a partial least squares - path modeling (PLS-PM) analysis to determine where the hypotheses were supported. Research findings include: (1) nearly 60 percent of part-time employment students of Science and Technology University had an injury or near-miss experience. (2) part-time employment students’ self-efficacy affected safety behaviors via the mediation of safety knowledge and safety motivation; and the safety knowledge had the most partially mediation effect, the strength of mediation reached to 47.70%.
