In May 2021, several COVID-19 cluster spread incidents occurred in northern Taiwan which resulted in a sudden upsurge of patients in hospital isolation and home isolation. Many people were isolated in hospitals, their homes, or in isolation facilities; there were even some families whose members were isolated in different facilities or different counties and cities. Nursing staff play a major role in the isolation of hospitalized patients. Using the Theory of Swanson Care in the treatment of COVID-19 patients and their families, we implemented the concept of whole-person, whole-family, whole process care; making proper use of ICT communication tools and methods, we helped to lessen the distance between family members and maintain the solidarity of family support. This paper provides a reference for nursing staff in the care of COVID-19 patients based on the experience of nurses working in the negative pressure isolation ward.
