The purposes of this study were to investigate the relation of young children's use of electronic story books with their reading development, how young children used electronic books, and the challenges young children faced when using electronic storybooks. Qualitative approach was used in the study, and participant observation as well as semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data. The results revealed that three stages emerged when young children used electronic storybooks, including exploring, adjustment, and independence. Although game-oriented electronic storybooks were children's favorite, they enjoyed reading most of the stories, and understood the meanings of them. In addition, the use of electronic storybooks had great impact on young children's reading, including verbal responses, non-verbal responses, and emotional responses. When reading electronic storybooks, young children had some difficulties in understanding the icons, vocal instructions, and using mouse and keyboard.
