We may learn from the past earthquake experience that when pipes and equipment are to be damaged to lose their function, the major buildings would not continue to properly function and the detriment it results should not be overlooked. Located on the Pacific seismic belt, Taiwan is under an environment where earthquakes are frequent. Under such circumstances, the evaluation for the quake resistance of pipes and equipment are worth paying attention to. Aiming at pipes and equipment, this paper has submitted a set of rapid, intact and effective evaluation procedure. The pipe check list has been made by making reference to the norms published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in the U.S. and Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FM). The equipment check list has been modified from the equipment check list published by Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER) to make it fit for Taiwan.
