中台灣高中生英語學習動機低落因素之分析

摘要


動機低落這個問題一直存在學習當中而且是需要被探討,尤其是當老師們目睹學生表現如此行為時。動機低落被視為動機的相反面而且也是影響學生英語學習的一個重要因素。但是,目前的研究大部分都是關於如何提升動機卻很少在動機低落這一塊。因此,本研究的目的是找出可能影響中台灣高中生英語學習動機低落之因素。本研究採用問卷調查法,由400位中台灣高中生完成此問卷,問卷內容包含了外在動機低落因素以及內在動機低落因素兩大部分。根據此問卷結果顯示,內在動機低落因素影響中台灣高中生英語學習甚於外在動機。在內在動機低落因素裡,中台灣高中生覺得無法達到父母對於他們的英語成績期望是最主要的因素。至於在外在動機低落因素方面,一個英文字彙有許多不同意思容易造成閱讀上的困難,是另一個次要影響英語學習的因素。透過本研究的結果,可初步瞭解中台灣高中生英語學習動機低落的原因。

Demotivation has long been a topic of particular interest to teachers who have witness their students become demotivated. It is regarded as the negative counterparts of motives and is an important factor that influences learners’ English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. However, previous studies mainly discussed learner’s motivation issues, not demotivating factors. The purpose of this study is to determine possible demotivating factors among EFL learners in high school. 400 Taiwanese EFL learners in high school completed an EFL learning demotivating questionnaire which included two categories of demotivating factors in EFL/ESL from Dörnyei (1998) and Tran and Baladut (2007): internal and external factors. The finding reveals that learners are demotivated toward English learning and are more internally than externally demotivated to learn English. For the internal factor, the reduced self-confidence demotivates the respondents most. Focus on be unable to achieve their parents’ expectations also demotivates learners’ EFL learning. For the external factors, some respondents report that they feel that a word with many different meanings which confuse theirs reading. Pedagogical implications are also discussed based on the findings.
