This project investigated depressive symptoms in elderly people in government-supported housing who participated in a 20-minute group physical activity with fast-rhythm music once a week for four consecutive weeks. Using within-subject pretest-posttest design, 15 subjects with a mean age 63.67 (SD=3.18) were participated in the program. They were interviewed and they completed the Geriatric Depressive Scale (GDS). Values of the depressive symptoms were obtained before and after completion of the 4-week physical activity music program. These data were analyzed via paired t-test using each subject as her/his own control. Participants showed improvement in their symptoms (t=8.01, p=0.000). Nurses can safely recommend physical activity with fast-rhythm music for depression in elderly people.
