During landscape planning and design stage, knowledge collection and analysis are parts of the initial jobs. Knowledge of planning and designing is wide and complicated which includes different fields such as art, technology, social study and sciences which in turn involve knowledge systems such as different types of spaces, relationships between people and the environment, and planting choices. These subjects all have to be considered by the designer. Therefore, the aim of this research is to establish a prototype system that collects spatial information and design elements for case studies during planning process. In addition, this expert system transforms, accumulates and uses knowledge system in order to preserve professionals’ experiences and creativities and to help non-professionals to do self-studying easily. This research chooses the planting of green space in National Taiwan University Campus as study case. In this research, we employs methods of rule-based expert system, case-based reasoning and knowledge management, and use CLIPS as the implement tool to organize all kinds of knowledge and present user interface. According to the input on the landscape elements by the user, the system searches the planting of green space database and copy the internet address into the webpage to surf related planting detail and its spatial site plan.
