Hillside environment possesses unique and fragile landscape and ecological characteristics. Both land development and recreation activity cause different levels of impact on the environment. Most existing planning methods focus on land suitability analysis as a whole. Less considerations of allocation suitability evaluation of recreation activity are taken into account. As a result, the hillside environments are damaged. The study tried to examine the evaluation items and criteria, and their relative weights for the land development siutability and allocation suitability of recreation activity from landscape ecological point of view. Based on the items and criteria, an evaluation system for the allocation of recreaiton activity was formulated. A Geographic Information System was applied to analyse the complicted hillside environmental data. Then, a case study was carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. It is hoped that the system will provide planners and decision-makers as reference for the planning of a recreation area.
