This paper proposes a realistic approach on pushover analyses of reinforced concrete (RC) structures for single column or multiple-column bent. According to theoretical bases and the empirical information, axial force, bending, and shear interactions are considered to derive the properties of plastic hinge corresponding to three distinct failure modes of RC column members. A simplified methodology, considering the variation of axial force of column members during the pushover process of the structure with multiple-column bent, is also recommended for nonlinear analysis of RC buildings with efficiency as well as accuracy. Comparing the experimental results, the proposed approach has been verified in high precision and may be expected to facilitate the pushover analyses of RC structures.
