In order to understand the relationship between gender and Internet, this research uses discourse analysis to examine the representations of Taiwan’s women-focused websites. This study finds that 147 websites are categorized into at least twelve types, revealing that the women-focused websites produce heterogeneous and diversified female discourses, yet are unequal in power. Due to the mechanism of capitalist market, the profit-driven women-focused websites are hegemonic in power relations. In terms of technique, influenced by gender norms, most women-focused websites transform themselves into the pink areas, and thus reproduce the dominant ideologies. However, the technology cannot totally control users, some websites, like lesbian websites, try to use Internet to empower themselves and challenge the myth of “women is a technological illiterate”.
