1936年台北帝國大學新設解剖學教室,金關丈夫應聘就任為教授;並在此解剖學教室開始針對臺灣各個民族展開相關調査研究。1941年金關以筆名林熊生在《臺灣警察時報》發表了偵探小說〈船中的殺人〉;並於1943年開始陸續發表以臺灣人素人偵探為主角的偵探小說「龍山寺的曹老人」系列作品。這系列作品之後或出版為小說集或被編入精選輯發行。同期間金關與池田敏雄等人共同創刊《民俗臺灣》致力於蒐集、記錄臺灣傳統文化、風俗民情。本論文以金關的偵探小說中生動地描寫著台灣人主角的「龍山寺的曹老人」系列後期作品為中心進行考察,探討各作品中所謂的「娛樂性」及其「後殖民」意義所在。
