This article describes the nursing experience of a case of severe pneumonia caused by respiratory failure and septic shock due to muscle weakness leading to psychosocial impairment of physical activity and psychological impact when the patient was out-of-danger afterwards. Thus, the author assessed the patient by methods of Symptom Management Model through overall assessments during the nursing period (4/21/2017-5/16/2017). Meanwhile, a rehabilitation program for the patient was established and his family was encouraged to participate in this process to improve the symptoms of muscle weakness, physical mobility, self-care ability, and reduce psychological distress. Moreover, this experience may serve as a reference to nursing staff not only by focusing on physiological problems but also by paying attention to psychological problems caused by psychological distress. Therefore, the author would like to share this case report to provide nursing professionals with a source of reference for holistic care.
