In sports injury rehabilitation, differences in psychological expectations can significantly affect the recovery outcomes. The purpose of this study is to explore the psychological factors associated with athletes' expectations of sports medicine teams during their rehabilitation from sports injuries. This literature review synthesized the findings from articles in databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Airiti Library that were identified by searching for several keywords, including rehabilitation, sports injury, expectation, psychological, and sports performance. The search period spanned 2000 to 2023, and 28 journal articles were analyzed. The reviewed articles provided insights from sports-related experts, including sports psychologists, athlete trainers, and physical therapists, and explored the interplay of psychology and expectations between the experts and athletes. The key conclusions of the current study are as follows: (1) Athletes have psychological expectations for professionals involved in sports injury rehabilitation, which can influence rehabilitation outcomes. (2) A review of expectation questionnaires revealed that factors such as athletes' sex, competition level, type of sport, and prior rehabilitation experiences influence their psychological expectations, with the athletes exhibiting varying dynamic changes in psychological needs.
