The Narrative of Usurpation in the Former Prophets of the Tanakh in the Context of the Ancient Near Eastern Literary

The narrative of usurpation in the Former Prophets of the Tanakh are significant, as usurpers undertook irregular methods to grab the throne and thus broke the bloodline of the kings. Usurpers also played important roles in the history of the Israelite and Judean courts. The composition of such images was a reflection of the redactors of the Former Prophets, namely the scribes, and their literary strategies, ideology, and external cultural influences. Ancient near eastern civilizations served as a key cultural matrix for Israelite civilization, and their texts had a remarkable influence on it. The narrative of usurpation is also a major prototype in ancient near eastern historical texts, providing characters and motifs for Israelite scribes in their activities of compositing the Former Prophets. The narrative of usurpation became an important part of the Former Prophets, and played an important role in advocating Israelite religious concepts.
