Introduction of Vertigo (Meniere Disease)

Ménière's disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes severe dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness or congestion in the ear. It is believed to be related to an increase in volume and pressure of the endolymph of the inner ear that caused by labyrinthine hydrops or endolymphtic hydrops. The pathological changes include lymph cavities dilation and hypoxia/transformation of organ of Corti. Meniere's disease is a chronic (ongoing) problem. Attacks may happen often, or only sometimes. As the disease progresses, vertigo can become less severe but hearing loss gets worse. In the end, with the loss of labyrinth function, the sufferers become deaf as a post and the attack of vertigo is no longer present.
