When mankind first began using energy it came from fire, water, wind, coal and animals. Today the preferred energy source is petroleum and natural gas, but its continued use poses a great impact on the lives of people in the future. Eighty-five percent of total energy consumption now comes from petroleum and natural gas. The world's people have been using petroleum for about 40 years while the use of natural gas has been going on for 62 years. Many of the world's economies, societies, and cultures will vary and undulate greatly in the future, and the mode of social operation will also face many changes. It appears that there may be "too many monks but too little gruel" – something that may not have been anticipated in the past. Research from Worldwatch Institute Organization reports that building activities are consuming about 40% of all sandstone.Other energies consumed are at about 40%. Man utilizes only about 16% of Earth's water energy. In one year logging output is at about 25%.Substitute sources of energy is on a rising trend. This research will show how future building activities and substitute energy resources could coexist. The methods of research divide into three stages. First, a discussion on the concerns of an ongoing energy crisis. Second, a discussion on how to idea design. And finally, prospective developments after responding to an applied design. This thesis will seem to be different from social operation and today's building methods. An example of substitute energy in Taiwan is wind. It has the potential to develop greatly in the future. At present, many energy developments in Taiwan rely on imports from foreign countries, but if more creative energy substitutes could be utilized the supply of energy could be greatly increased to fit the ever increasing demand.
