Totally 1018 procedures of harvesting thrombocytapheresis were performed in 1989 and 205 harvesting leukapheresis were performed in 1989 and 1990. The average platelets yielded in thrombocytapheresis was (4.4 ± 0.99) × 10^(11) (mean ± SD) and the average granulocytes yielded in leukapheresis was 1 ± 0.49 × 10^(10). The donors' pre-procedure and post-procedure counts were correlated to the products obtained. The most common side effect in donors was anxiety, followed by circumoral paresthesia, chill, dizziness, headache, chest tightness, tachycardia, nausea and transient hypotenstion. The Fenwal CS-3000 and COBE-Spectra cell separators seemed to be better in harvesting hemapheresis.
