成年男性代謝當量(MET)之準確度與估計

The Accuracy and Estimation of Metabolic Equivalent (MET) in Adult Males

摘要


代謝當量(metabolic equivalent,MET)是成年人之坐姿安靜攝氧率(resting oxygen uptake, VO2rest),為西方國家常用之能量消耗與運動強度單位,是否適用於不同人種和不同居住環境者之使用有待商榷。本研究之目的是比較1MET之界定值(約3.5mL‧min-1‧kg-1)與台灣健康成年男性之VO2rest的差異,進而尋求一些簡易而可以用於預估VO2rest的身體測量或/和安靜心肺測量。受試者為50名20~50 yr,身高(Ht)170 ±1 (M ±SEM) (平均數 ±標準誤) cm,體重(Wt) 71 ±1 kg之志願者。VO2rest是使用開放式熱量法(open-circuit calorimetry)測量,身體測量包括Ht、Wt、體表面積、身體質量指數(Wt/Ht2)、和瘦質量指數(Ht3/Wt)。安靜心肺測量為安靜血壓,以及VO2rest測量時之通氣量與心跳率。結果顯示1 MET值是吻合我們的測量值3.48±0.06mL‧min-1‧kg-1。Wt與絕對VO2rest (mL‧min-1)之積差相關(r=0.72)為所有選用變數中最高,多元迴歸法顯示Wt與心縮壓之變異可預估58%絕對VO2rest之變異。本研究之資料是支持MET的應用性,而且VO2rest之絕對值主要是由體重所決定。

Metabolic equivalent (MET), measured as the resting oxygen uptake (VO2rest) of a seated adult, is commonly used as a unit of energy expenditure of exercise intensity in Western countries. Whether it is applicable to different racial groups or habitants of different living environments is not known. The purpose of this study was to compare one defined MET value, approximately 3.5 mL‧min-1‧kg-1, to the VO2rest of healthy adult males in Taiwan; and to determine if some simple physical measurements or/and resting cardiorespiratory variables could be useful in estimating VO2rest. Subjects were 50 volunteers, aged 20-50 yr, 170 ± 1 (M ± SEM) cm in height (Ht), 71 ± 1 kg in weight (Wt). VO2rest was measured by using open-circuit calorimetry. Physical measurements included Ht, Wt, body surface area, body mass index (Wt/Ht2), and leanness index (Ht3/Wt). Resting cardiorespiratory variables included blood pressure, and the heart rate and pulmonary ventilation obtained during VO2rest measurement. The results showed that the one MET value was comparable to our 3.84 ± 0.06 mL‧min-1‧kg-1 measured value. The product-moment correlation (r=0.72) between Wt and absolute VO2rest (mL‧min-1) was the highest among all the measured variables. Multiple linear regression indicated the 58% of the variance of absolute VO2rest could be predictable from the variances of Wt and systolic blood pressure. In conclusion, our data supports the applicability of one MET, and the absoluteVO2rest is largely determined by body weight.
