The purpose of this project is to promote the education of chemotherapy patients by nurses to provide a better understanding of chemotherapy and how to cope with the side effects. Clinical experiments found that 89% of the patients do not understand how to cope with the side effects or negative reaction even after accepting chemotherapy. Further investigations by the project team show that 80% of the patients have either not had or are not satisfied with the education of chemotherapy by the nurses. The problems identified through analysis are as follows: 1. lack of on-the-job-education, 2. lack of assessment tools, 3. lack of a complete bedside pamphlet, and 4. lack of educational guidelines and standards. The solutions found are: 1. have classes on chemotherapy, 2. create ”case date base of chemo-medication injection” as assessment tool, 3. create the ”self-care during chemotherapy period” pamphlet, and 4. establish teaching guidelines and standards for the nurses. After the implementation of the solution, the efficiency of nursing teaching raised 5o% to 95%, and the satisfaction of patients with nursing teaching also raised from 20% to 90%-both reach the goal of this project.
